Raman spectroscopy is a standard technique in chemical analysis. However, it has also long been known by skin researchers that the method is excellently suited for measuring the molecular composition of the skin in vivo. Used confocally and with microscopic resolution, the water content of the skin can be measured with depth resolution, but also ingredients such as the natural moisturizing factors (NMF) or the lipids of the skin barrier can be quantified. If one wants to investigate whether active ingredients or specific components of a formulation reach the living layers of the skin, confocal Raman spectroscopy is also ideally suited for this purpose. This webinar will cover the following points:

  • Background to the measurement method
  • Investigation of moisturizers
  • studies of the skin barrier
  • Quantitative measurement of skin penetration
  • Evaluation of penetration-improving ingredients
  • Results of own studies
